Tyler Perry’s House of Payne Review #2
I wrote this post about House of Payne when the show was only 3 weeks old. I said I liked the show and for the most part I still do. However, yesterdays episodes left me with some doubts.
Let me first say that there are some plot holes in the show that need to be ironed out. Things about Janine (the crack-head wife) for instance or what purpose the new firefighter (Alex?) adds to the show. Sex appeal maybe? Because I really don’t see a need for her to be there.
I’ve read a lot of negative reviews and one common theme seems to be that Tyler always makes the woman out to be the bad guy. All of the women in his plays, movies, and now his tv show, have issues. Yesterday is a good example of this. Carmen claimed CJ was her daughters father because they slept together for the 3 weeks that him and Janine were broken up in high school. (What?!?!?!??!) Umm, ok. That doesn’t really make sense but I’ll work with it. Then at the end of the show, the blood test comes back and low and behold, CJ’s not the baby daddy.
That storyline really irritates me. I know it happens all of the time but c’mon, did Tyler really need to perpetuate that stereotype on his show?!?!?! So is she supposed to be so promiscous that she doesn’t even know who the father of her child is? I reckon’ so.
It gots to get better than that Tyler. Fo’ real.
