I miss hearing disco

Usually Saturday night is disco night on the radio. I started listening to it when I worked nights at my last job. I’ve been listening to the show for at least 5-6 years. During the holiday season, the station switches to an all Christmas music format. So I’m out of luck for at least 2 more weeks.

Who knew that I would actually miss hearing cheesy disco music?!?!

School is almost over

Yesterday was my last actual class. Next Thursday is the final exam. Most classes use the last class to do a review for the final. Not this class. We learned new material and he’s going to email us something that he didn’t get to cover, which will also be on the final. Yeah great just what I need, material that I have to totally learn on my own.

The kicker? I don’t even need this class. I don’t need it at all, not for my major or for the credits. I just hope I pass so I can get my tuition reimbursement money.

The job I applied for is gone

I just wrote the other day that I’m looking for a new job. It’s already filled! The job is in our commercial real estate department. I never saw the listing and it has been open for over 3 weeks. It’s a good department to work for so they filled that job fairly quickly.

So the search continues. Now I’m looking at another Accounting position. It’s 2 grade levels higher than I am now which would give me a halfway decent raise. The job also has great growth potential. The upside is 5 grades higher than I am now so there is a lot of room to grow. This one just got posted yesterday so at least I know I’m still in the running.

My site as a Christmas ornament

That's what you'll see if you head on over to Jessica's blog qforquack. Jessica posted on a forum I frequent offering to turn our site into a ornament for the Christmas tree on her blog. It’s on her front page and it’s really cute. She has all kinds of ornaments in all kinds of colors (mine is the blue one on the bottom) and even a candy cane ornament. The star will be the most prominent blog and I don’t think she’s decided who to give that to yet. When you click on my ornament, you see my a screen shot of my blog with the post from the day she put the ornament up. Head on over to check it out. It’s really cool! If you would like her to include your blog leave her a comment with your name, blog name and blog url, if she has space she might include your blog next.Oh and thanks Jessica.

Flying during the holidays

I’ve decided not to drive to NJ during the Christmas weekend and I’ll fly instead. One reason is because I tend to have anxiety attacks when I’m behind the wheel too long. It usually only happens at night. Since it gets dark early (before 6pm), I would be driving in the dark. I could leave home early in the morning but it’s on Christmas day and I don’t want to leave before noon.

I’ve put off getting my ticket though because I have some money coming in on Friday that I plan on purchasing my ticket with. The other reason is because I was hoping that my neighbor would decide to go visit his family and then he would drive. We could still take my car but he would do all driving and I would pay the gas and tolls. But it looks like he won’t be going so I have to fly.

I was even gonna let him take my car for the weekend to go visit his family in North Jersey and to go tripping around NYC. But you know men, they just won’t cooperate.

Management equals meetings

The managers at my job are in meetings all day long. Some days they will have 6 hours or more of meetings. I could probably count on 1 hand the number of times my manager had no meetings scheduled for a particular day.

I would make a horrible manager because I always fall asleep in our meetings. And I usually sit right in the front.

I’m looking for a new job

I want to stay at my same company but I want to go to a new department. I applied to process applications for commercial real estate. Our bank is pretty old-school and stodgy so we don’t have a lot of losses like a lot of other banks. As a matter of fact, our consumer division is stronger than ever and still growing. I’m looking for a growth area and to get my feet wet in another area.

There are a lot of jobs that are open right now but I don’t want to take a job just for the sake of moving. I want it to be something that I’m interested in. I also want it to be in a field that I could potentially work in when I move. So there’s no sense taking a customer service type of job because although it pays fairly well here, that’s not the case everywhere.

I just plan on keeping my eyes peeled and my ear to the ground. I know something perfect will come my way eventually.

Casinos need bigger no smoking areas

I don’t think the whole casino should be non-smoking. Although it would be in a perfect world. However, they designate this tiny section of the casino for non-smoking. I was only there for 2 1/2 hours and I reek of cigarette smoke. I’ll have to shower and wash my hair before I go to bed. I also had to hang my clothes to get the smell out. My poor coat is just done right now. I’m not really worrying about that though because I’m taking it to the cleaners next week.
