Buying gifts for relatives

My coworker that’s training me is not from this country. She’s originally from Croatia but she lived in Germany just before she came here. She’s going home to visit her relatives (in both countries) this weekend. Today she went shopping to get gifts to take home to them.

She got a Tommy Hilfiger belt, some designer sunglasses, a Timberland wallet, and a bunch of other stuff. For her father-in-law she got a monogrammed handkerchief set. She was surprised that you could find obscure initals like KVM, but she decided to just get his first initial. She also got a newsboy cap for her father.

I’m glad that I got the opportunity to have her train me before she left. She will be gone for an entire month and I shudder to think who would have trained me if I had started 2 weeks later than I did.

Something funny at work

The week I left my last job, we got a teamworks award at work. I don’t remember what we did but it was a group of us. Since there was more than 10 people they give you a group award instead of a individual award.

My old supervisor emailed me today to let me know that the pizza party is tomorrow. My new location is too far from my old location for me to go. So I sent my boss a email with the message to send my slice of pizza to me interoffice. I included a smiley face with the email.

That should at least get a chuckle out of her.

How fast do you type?

I thought I would do a little something different today. Take this quiz that I found on another site.

My attempt at yoga

yoga.jpgHa. It was interesting to say the least. I had never done yoga before so when I was offered the chance to get a yoga dvd to review, I said yes. I decided that I would incorporated the yoga into my workout schedule.

I worked out for 3 days as usual then on the 4th day I started doing the yoga. It was an experience to say the least. I felt very relaxed but invigorated. I felt like I was elongating my limbs while stretching them. I didn’t think I would be able to do some of the positions. I had to stretch my legs in ways that I never had before. I’m glad that I went for the beginner’s yoga dvd or I might have been in trouble.

Right now my goal is to lose weight so I will only use the yoga once or twice a week. But once I lose the majority of my weight. I will use the yoga to maintain my weight, correct my posture and help me feel healthy in general.

It’s so quiet at work

Nobody is friends at all. They barely talk to one another. It’s so weird coming from an environment where everybody was cool and hung out together after work. We just had a meeting and 2 people admitted that they don’t speak to each other once they leave the building even though they take the same commute home. I can’t even imagine doing that.

It’s also quiet in the building in general. In my old location we had music sent through the speaker system. Here we don’t have that but we can listen to our headsets. Once I feel like I’m fully trained I plan on taking advantage of that. It’s lunch time right now and it’s the noisiest it’s been all day because there’s a small party in the breakroom. I can totally imagine someone going and asking them to quiet down.

I’ll get used to it eventually.

I’m not the only one with car troubles

One of my new coworkers had someone hit her truck. The guy pulled out of a lot and side-swiped her car. She was in the middle lane so I don’t understand how he went across a lane and into a second lane. She said he was driving a small car so he shouldn’t have hit her.

Nobody was hurt in the accident but she had to retain a truck accident lawyer because the guys insurance doesn’t want to pay. I guess he has a really crappy insurance company that’s notorious for not paying claims. Luckily she wasn’t at fault so she shouldn’t have a problem. She’s not even suing the guy for anything except car repairs. I don’t know why the company is dragging their feet.

Hopefully she gets everything resolved soon.

I have to spend more money on my car

And I’m tired of it. I just had a bunch of work done because the previous owner didn’t take care of the car at all! Everything I had done would have cost way less if they had just done routine maintenance on the car. I had to get upgrades to the sensors and a fluid flush and fill. My transmission fluid was so old it was starting to burn.

I also need to get the car painted because John’s ex scratched my paint. They tried to sell me the paint job, some tail light guards, and some other stuff. I was like “uhh no, I’ll get cosmetic stuff somewhere else”. I’m not going to let the dealer overcharge me for that. They have a heck of a mark-up for accessories. I’ll stick to the dealer for the heavy stuff and go somewhere else if I want my car to be cool looking.

With all the money I just put into the car, I doubt if I worry about making the car look cool for a while. Especially since I need a oil change and new brake pads. I guess spending money on the car never ends.

Calling people the wrong name

I don’t know why I’ve been doing this lately. It’s only really happening with one person at work. Her name is Beverly and lately I’ve been calling her Gail. I have no idea why. Beverly is my team leader here at work. Gail was my supervisor at my old job. (It’s really the same position just a different job title.)

They don’t look anything alike so I don’t understand it at all. It’s not like I’m trying to be a smart alec or anything. I just call her by the wrong name. Most of the time I catch myself and I’m able to say the right name. When the wrong name does slip out she just laughs and shakes her head. I’m lucky that it doesn’t happen often and Beverly is a good sport about it.

Has this ever happened to you? What did you do about it?

I started my new job today

There are some things that I like and some that I don’t like.

Likes:

1. It’s a new enviroment and I’ll be learning a totally different system than I know now. That can only help me in the future.

2. It’s still an accounting position and again I’ll get another view of the accounting world.

3. It’s more money which always helps.

4. I can listen to headphones. At my old job I wasn’t allowed to do that. At least I’ll have some kind of entertainment.

Dislikes:

1. No onsite cafeteria. We have a “lunch/break room” but I would have to go to another building to buy food. This can turn into a like fairly quickly though because I should save a lot of money bringing food to work.

2. My badge doesn’t work. I have to knock on the door constantly to get someone to let me in. I also have to stop at security to be let back into the building. This will also turn into a like because my badge should work by tomorrow.

3. They don’t have any work for me right now. I’ll take over someone elses job eventually. You would think that they knew I was coming so work would be ready. This can go either way. Either I’ll like the job or not. I hope I like it, if not 6 months is a long time to be at a job that you don’t like.

4. It’s too quiet! I can hear myself typing quiet. Eerie. This is something that I will have to get used to. I’ve heard it was quiet downtown but I didn’t know it would be this quiet.

All in all not a bad impression on my first day. I haven’t even hit lunch yet. I’m sure the rest of the day will pick up.

I might be able to add to my sports shelf

I think it’s pretty evident that I love sports. I talk about them a lot. Not as much as I used to, but it’s still more than most. Anyway, I have a sports shelf in my living room with a few bobbleheads and a autographed football among other things. I didn’t think I would be able to add any more sports collectibles for a while but now I might be able to.

I found a site called Hyped-Up Sports that sells sports memorabilia which is cool. But even better is their new program called the Send It In Program where you send in stuff to be signed by your favorite athlete. So far they have LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and Kevin Durant. Each person signs on their own schedule. Actually, I just checked and Michael Jordan was scheduled in February. Bummer! But everyone else is still available. What a great way to add sports collectibles to my growing collection of articles.

When I first went to the site, the first item that caught my eye was a Alex Rodriguez autographed bat. Now I know that I have a “I love Ryan Howard” category, but I really love A-Rod. It’s too bad he’s not in the program. Do you think I could send myself? No. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to stalk admire him when he comes to Pittsburgh in June. I can not wait!!!!!!!
