Home prices are still too high for me

I’ve been hoping to score a nice little condo recently. I wasn’t really convinced on trying to get a foreclosure because of all of the problems that I’ve heard cropping up with them. They’re the same problems with regular single family homes only in a much smaller space. You know, the owner gets miffed and breaks stuff, leaves water running and ruins the floor and/or carpets and a bunch of other stuff that I wouldn’t really believe unless I saw it.

Of course I’ve been looking mostly here in Pittsburgh since that’s where I live. I’m not really opposed to cross country moving to get a good deal but I want to have a job in place first. This is not really the type of economy that you want to move without a job, especially since I work in banking. Unfortunately most of the places that I’ve seen are way out of my price range and definitely out of my comfort level. That includes the homes here locally and the ones in my target destinations.

It’s really too bad because I was hoping to be able to take advantage of that tax credit for first time home buyers. Maybe something will happen for me soon.

I am so busy

Work is crazy busy right now. Some days I don’t know if I’m coming or going. I’m trying to keep track of everything but something always falls through the cracks. It’s good that I’m busy because it keeps my mind occupied. Even if it does seem like I’m going crazy some days.

At least I have a mini vacation coming up soon.

My new bank does not play

I got fed up with my old bank and went to a new bank for my checking and savings accounts. My new bank is on the ball too. If you have a bill posted for today, the money is unavailable as of today. Where as with most banks the money is still available until the payment is actually presented by the payee. It sure keeps me on my toes to make sure my checking account info is accurate and up to date.

I can also contact my new bank 24 hours a day. On the phone I can get a real person any time of the day or night. They have live chat software that I can use if I want to communicate with them over the internet. Or I can send them a email and they’ll respond to my account on their site and to my personal email address. That works for me because I don’t have to wait until I get home to read the email.

So far I’m loving my decision and I don’t miss my old bank at all.

Joke of the week

Three Government Contractors…

Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the White House in D.C.; one from New Jersey, another from Tennessee and the third, from Florida. They go with a White House official to examine the fence.

The Florida contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring, then works some figures with a pencil. “Well”, he says, “I figure the job will run about $900: $400 for materials, $400 for my crew and $100 profit for me.”

The Tennessee contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says, “I can do this job for $700: $300 for materials, $300 for my crew and $100 profit for me.”

The New Jersey contractor doesn’t measure or figure, but leans over to the White House official and whispers, “$2,700.”

The official, incredulous, says, “You didn’t even measure like the other guys! How did you come up with such a high figure?”

The New Jersey contractor whispers back, “$1000 for me, $1000 for you, and we hire the guy from Tennessee to fix the fence.”

“Done!” replies the government official.

And that friends, is how it all works!

WAMO 106.7 Officially off the air

Back in May Sheridan Broadcasting sold their urban radio station to a Christian broadcasting station. Sheridan cited a changing market as reason for the sale. According to Sheridan, there is a new people meter that measures ratings. In markets where the new system has taken place, Black and Hispanic ratings have gone down 40%. Some say the reason is because the meters aren’t evenly distributed to minorities skewing results. Read the article: here

According to Wikipedia:                                                                                                               “As of 6:07PM EST, Tuesday, September 8, 2009, WAMO-FM 106.7 discontinued broadcasting. Its last song was Boyz II Men’s ‘It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye To Yesterday’, and then silence.”

Just sad!

My 3 days of relaxation are over

I’ve had a very relaxing 3 days off. Unfortunately it’s now time to go back to work. My job is stressing me out because I really don’t like it. There aren’t a lot of jobs available right now either. When you do see a job that you’re interested in, you have a huge number of people that you’re competing with. Hopefully I’ll find something new soon.

At least this is a short week.

My Mom uses text messaging

I thought it was hilarious when my Mom texted me a message. I didn’t even know she knew how to text. She laughed and said that she just followed the directions on her phone and it was easy. My aunt and uncle sent her a new flip phone that’s much more techno savvy than the one she had been using. I asked her if she would be using any more of the features available to her and she said no.

She reminds me of those parents in the Verizon commercial. I just think it’s funny that she’s texting. Who know what she’ll come up with next.

I’m not doing anything fun this weekend

This is one boring weekend for me. I usually love long weekends but this weekend I’m not doing anything at all. I bounced a check from my other account so I’m really lacking on cash this pay period. The worse part is that I just got paid so I have another week and a half before I get more money.

I usually go somewhere for dinner during my days off, but since I’m cash strapped that will have to wait. One thing’s for sure, I don’t have to worry about taking the best diet pill that I have because I won’t be eating any junk food for the next couple of days. I have to raid my fridge and see what kind of food I have available to cook. I’m just lucky that I keep extra food in the house for times like these.

I know it will feel good to be able to sleep in tomorrow and not worry about going to work.

I love 3 day weekends

I can’t believe it’s already the Labor Day weekend. I mean where exactly did summer go? We didn’t even have 3 weeks worth of warm days. The majority of summer was under 85 degrees. I’m used to heat and it just wasn’t there.

I don’t have anything planned for this weekend at all. I’ll play on the computer a little and watch a lot of tv. I may go to Wally World where I found the best acne treatment for a great price. I love those masks that they have. You can really feel the mask tightening on your skin and pulling all of the dirt out. It doesn’t even take long. I can put it on, watch a whole sitcom and it’s time to rinse off.

I just hope this weekend doesn’t go too fast. I really want to just relax.

Congrats to Michael Vick!

Yeah Roger Goddell finally got it right. Mike is able to play beginning in Week 3 vs the Chiefs. Now Andy Reid has to decide whether to give him an exempt status for the first 2 weeks or put him on the 53 man roster. If he’s exempt he would be unable to practice with the team. I think he needs to be on the regular roster so he can at least practice for those 2 weeks.

I was never a Mike Vick fan but I’m happy for him and it will be exciting to see him play.
