I never made it to another baseball game

I only went to one baseball game this year. I thought I would make it to another game but it just never came to fruition. One of my coworkers went to the last game of the year but I didn’t find out until the last minute. I surely would have gone along with her. She went by herself which I totally understand. I just really didn’t want to go alone so I skipped the game.

I like the tail-gating activities almost as much as I like the actual game. My friend has a huge truck that looks like it has rv towing capacity. We love taking that thing. We totally fill the back with ice and dump most of our beverages in there and let them get cold. We also took a small grill and made food. It was a pretty awesome day.

Maybe we’ll all get together and go to a hockey game. As long as it’s a cool group of people, I’m game.

Not a bad week for the Pirates

I was reading the paper and trying to see what’s going on with the baseball races. I did notice that the Pirates had been on a recent winning streak, then lost a game or two. They did end their season at home with a win which is a good thing. I also saw that Pedro Alvarez won the NL Player of the Week. That’s something that no player had done since 2008.

It seems that Pedro is playing better recently and I think that has something to do with the fact that he’s slimmed down. It doesn’t seem like he suffering from phenphedrine side effects either. He seems to be getting into a zone after only half a season in the majors. That seems to be a good omen for next season.

Hopefully the Pirates will end the season with a winning streak. You gotta take the small victories as they come.

The new baseball schedule is out

I’m was surprised that the 2011 schedule is already out before we’re even done with 2010. I guess it’s for people who may want to make plans to follow their teams around the country next summer. I’m kinda excited because they Pirates play the AL East next year. The Yankees aren’t on the schedule, but we do plan Tampa and Boston at home. We also play Detroit as part of the interleague games schedule.

I may have to look into buying tickets and making arrangements now. I’ll probably just drive up to Cleveland to see a few games. I would rather go to New York but it’s so expensive there. On the positive side, there is so much to do. I can go to the museums, buy shoes or find out where to buy apidexin for the best price possible. Even more exciting, I would be able to get a hair style that I just can’t get done here. And the price would be really cheap.

I guess I’ll start saving money a little at a time and see if I can hit the road and catch a game or two.

I knew it would change

So I write a post yesterday about the games on FOX and TBS over the weekend. Mainly I just said that they seemed to be the same two teams every weekend. Well guess what changed this weekend? That’s right - the teams.

Saturday on Fox was Atlanta vs Cincinnati. A game I wasn’t particular about watching. On Sunday on TBS the game was the Yankees vs the Tampa Bay Rays. Pretty good game. But notice that not only are the teams different, it’s a totally different league!

It figures that as soon as I point something out, it changes dramatically.

I made a interesting observation about baseball on tv

On Saturday there’s a game on Fox. Then on Sunday there’s a game on TBS. They’re usually national games and when it gets close to the playoffs, they’re the playoff race games. Anyway what I noticed is that whatever 2 teams come on Fox on Saturday are the same 2 teams that you see on Sunday on TBS.

Now watch the teams and games will change now that I mentioned this.

I didn’t even get the full enjoyment out of the baseball preview

And it had nothing to do with the preview channel or the cable company. It was because of my favorite team. Their schedule did not mesh well with the preview week. The preview started Thursday and ended Wednesday of the following week.

Here’s how it played out for me:

Thursday - my favorite team was off
Friday - I got to see the game…yippee!
Saturday - National game on regular tv
Sunday - National game on regular tv
Monday - Off day —again?!?!?!
Tuesday - I got to see the game
Wednesday - Day game —-blah I didn’t get to see it.

So out of 7 possible games, I only got to see 2 because of the free preview. That is one of the main reasons why I don’t put out over $100 for the package. I won’t even get my money’s worth if the games don’t jell with my schedule. Oh well maybe I’ll get to see them again soon on regular old tv.

My Insane Random Ramblings

I have a lot going on so I need a easy post. Here’s the sports edition of my Insane Random Ramblings:

  1. I’m kind of glad that Dez Bryant decided to forgo the usual hazing rituals associated with NFL rookies. I have a feeling he’ll get some backlash from his team-mates but I admire him for sticking to his guns.
  2. Will T.O. ever find a job? It’s like a soap opera with him. He might end up with the Bengals but who knows. Hopefully he’ll change his attitude and humble him, but knowing him…it won’t.
  3. Congrats to Matt Garza of the Rays. He threw the 5th no hitter of the season and the 1st in Rays history. Nice job!
  4. I was happy to read that Maurice Clarett went back to OSU to get his degree. He said he didn’t want to be a distraction to the football team or his follow students. Maybe he’s finally on the right path. I’m really rooting for this guy.
  5. WTH is going on with Sergio Kindle?!?!?! He fell down “multiple” flights of stairs and has a fractured skull. What was he doing and how do you fall down multiple flights!?!!? Something’s rotten in Denmark! I do wish him a speedy and full recovery.

The free baseball preview is over

And that makes me very sad. Every year I write post after post after post describing how much I love the free preview. We get it twice a year but there was absolutely no notice this year. The first week of the season you get a free week and you get one week after the All-Star break. The only reason I knew to watch out for it was because I know it happens at the same time every year.

I looked at my messages from the cable company and I looked at my bill and neither mentioned the preview. I’m just glad I knew about it because I was loving all of the extra games. Unfortunately now the party is over and I have to go back to my normal schedule or a few games per week, most of which I don’t want to see anyway.

Oh well, I was fun while it lasted.

I knew it

Yesterday I just knew that I would fall asleep during the baseball game that I was watching. I figured I would doze off for a minute and wake up close to 2:00pm. I was pretty surprised that I made it all the way until 5:00 or the 9th inning. The only problem was that the game went into extra innings and I almost missed it. I was in and out of sleep until I heard a bunch of noise. I looked up just in time to see the game winning hit.

I would have been so upset to miss the end of the game. On a side note, today is my day off and of course I didn’t sleep in. I would up at 7:00am today. I guess there really is no rest for the weary.

The Phillies are in town this weekend

Yeah I am so happy about that.  I love the Phillies and Ryan Howard in particular. My eyes shine like diamonds every time I watch him play. I wasn’t able to go to the game last night or tonight but I’ll try my best to make it to a game this weekend. The tickets aren’t that expensive but I hate going to games by myself.

This is a holiday weekend so I suspect that it will be really crowded so I can find someone to talk to during the game. But even if I don’t, I’m still trying to go to a game.
