My face is so cold

My bus broke down today. The driver announced that the bus had to get serviced so we went about 3 more blocks until she found somewhere to pull over. Once the maintenance tech got there, they noticed that there was something that was loose that could potential fall off so the bus had to get towed back to the garage for service.

Meanwhile, she had to turn the bus off which meant no heat. So we sat there for about 20 minutes waiting for the next bus. It turns out the next 2 buses, which came fairly quickly, were totally full so we had to wait for a third bus. By the time I got on the bus I was pretty much freezing.

When I got to work, I noticed that my face was so cold that it had started to develop red splotches. Now that I’ve been at work for about an hour, my face is returning to normal and the splotches are fading.

Of course this now cuts into my overtime since I have to stay to make up my time. Oh well such is life. Luckily our buses don’t break down too often.

One of my coworkers is pretty strange

Today is really cold and windy. It’s also raining. When I get to work, I open my umbrella and leave it open in my cube hoping it will dry out. So a coworker walks into my cube, past the umbrella, sits down and we start to talk about a party we’re having at work and then the conversation turns to the weather in general. I say how cold it is and how glad I was that I keep an extra jacket at work.

She then looks at me and says, well it’s wet too…do you have an umbrella? I was flabbergasted and almost didn’t know how to respond. She had to pass the umbrella to get into the chair and it was almost touching her as we spoke. I just nodded and said yes and kept talking.

Sometimes I wonder about that woman.

Don’t take internet message boards so seriously

I visit several online message boards. A few days ago, one of the regulars on one of the boards announced that they were “taking a few months off”. Apparently it was because people were gossiping and talking about them behind their back.

I was shocked and amused at the same time. The shock stemmed from the fact that this particular website is known for being back-bitey and gossipy. Everyone talks about everyone and it’s not always nice. The amusement came from the fact that someone took an internet message board so seriously. Really?!?!? It’s not real life people.

I guess that’s why I always lurk on the boards that I frequent. That way if I decide to stop visiting, there is no need for a big announcement. And if someone e-hurts my feelings, it’s easy to stop visiting the site.

My bus driver thinks he’s on the Indy Speedway

On the evening bus we don’t have a regular driver, we have a new driver everyday. Yesterday my bus was 20 minutes late. This particular driver always seems to run late too. So he starts on his route through downtown picking up people. He’s driving pretty aggressively but that’s usual.

After he hits the last stop where a lot of people get on, he starts flying. When we would get close to a light he would have to jam on the brakes. There were a couple of times where I saw some of my fellow passengers lunge forward because he braked so hard.

There’s also a pothole on one of the main streets that we drive on. Most drivers either miss it completely or slow down to go over it. Not the guy last night. He rolled over it that the bus dipped like a roller coaster. He also passed up several people who were waiting on the bus because he was driving so fast.

Luckily I only have this guy once a week and it’s only for another 3 weeks. I’m glad to be getting out before I end up with whiplash or worse.

I don’t even know what day it is

That seems to be one of the side effects of having a short work week for me. I didn’t know what day it was all day yesterday and today I can’t remember if it’s Thursday or Friday. I’ve also been working a lot of overtime and I had to leave early yesterday because of a computer upgrade so that really confused me because I got home so much earlier than usual.

The up side of all of this is that I only have to work 4 days and tomorrow starts the weekend.

I missed the earthquake

I don’t know whether I should feel sad or elated. I was washing clothes this afternoon and turned on the tv for a distraction and saw that there was a earthquake centered in Virginia. It was felt here as well as Philly and NY. Everybody ran to facebook to say how crazy it was. Some people’s phones also went out since towers went down.

Oh well back to normal.

I got serenaded in Home Depot

I went to Home Depot to buy a board for my living room window so I could block it off in order to put my air conditioner in. There was only 1 guy in the department that could cut wood and he was already helping someone so I decided to walk around a bit.

I got back a few minutes later and he was helping someone else. Meanwhile the other customer was stacking his cart full of wood to build a deck. Then he just randomly comes over and starts talking to me. He was telling me about a song he wrote then he just burst out singing. It was funny and embarrassing at the same time.

The only positive is that he actually had a beautiful voice. Still I don’t want random Home Depot customers serenading me!

Why do I let spam comments get under my skin

I really have no idea. I know that these people are just out trolling for link backs. They’re hoping that they will rile you up so that you’ll approve their comments. Once you’ve done that, you’ll have a rebuttal to their comment but it won’t matter because they’re not coming back to your blog. When you approved the comment, they got the link that they wanted.

I know this yet I still let them get to me. I need to start just deleting everything and stop reading the comments, especially since I know that the vast majority of them are garbage.

Now I’m having shirt troubles

I’m almost always having pants issues. They usually split and of course it almost always happens when I’m at work. Or there’s always the infamous I ripped another pair of pants issue. But it hasn’t happened in a while and I thought I was good. Until yesterday when I noticed that something looked a bit off with my shirt. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it but I knew something was wrong. I kept looking at my shirt and it finally hit me after lunch….my shirt was on inside out!!!

It’s one of those collared shirts that has a Las Vegas logo on it with a pocket so it should have been easy to figure out but it totally flew under the radar. Needless to say I felt totally foolish once I saw what had happened. Hopefully my clothing craziness is done for a while. Or at least nothing will rip or be turned inside out, again.

I’m Scared Straight and I’m sitting in my living room

I love A&E. I love almost all of the original programs that they show in addition to shows like Criminal Minds that are in syndication. Right now the newest program is Scared Straight where they take juvenile offenders who are going down the wrong path and put them in a real prison for a day. They talk to the prisoners, get lectured by “mentors” and see what the living quarters are like. But the really scary part is when the prisoners introduce the kids to the unpleasant parts of prison life. They scream at those kids and threaten them just like they’re really inmates.

On the first show that I watched most of the female inmates looked like dudes. They kept telling the young girls that they were gonna “make them their bitches” if they got put in the cells with them. One of the inmates also took one of the girls’ “prison number”. When the group asked her where it was and she told them, they told her that she had just broke the “no snitching” rule and would have been dealt with if she were a real prisoner.

Man, I’ve never done anything that would have gotten me put in prison but I got scared straight sitting on my living room couch!
