Yeah, happy birthday bro! Unfortunately we can’t spend it together because we’re in two different states but I will at least get a chance to talk to him later on today. I never make a big deal about my birthday but I do make a fuss over other peoples’ birthday. I had no idea what to get him so I just sent money because that’s always the perfect present.
I just hope he has a great day!
Whoops! I mailed it today and his birthday is Wednesday. They don’t pick up mail until 2pm and then again at 5pm. Then it has to go to the main post office, sorted and sent to his city. He’ll probably receive the card on Thursday or Friday. I already had the card but I had forgotten to get his gift card so I kept putting off mailing the card.
On a positive note, I’m sure he’ll love the card.
And it all centers on the holiday season that we’re entering. There are holidays-with presents, birthdays-with presents, anniversaries-with presents, etc. Mainly it’s time to dole out a lot of presents.
I know that I’m buying my niece and nephew gifts but I don’t think I’m buying anything for anyone else. I was thinking about a package similar to Graduation Photo Cards but having them holiday themed for my cousins’ holiday bash. Now I’m not so sure, I think I may show her what to order and let her buy them so I can focus on the cake.
No matter how you slice it though, I’m getting ready to get hit in the pockets really hard.
Mainly because he’s a teenager and everybody is on facebook now. We’re not facebook friends and I didn’t even know he had an account until I saw him on another persons’ friends list. It just seems weird and awkward that everyone else sent well wishes and I didn’t. I’m not ignoring him but we’re not close either.
That’s the thing about facebook though. It makes you keep in contact with people that you normally wouldn’t talk to. Now I have to send belated wishes so I don’t get on his bad side.
My niece texted me in a panic because she couldn’t get her phone to work. We thought she needed a new phone so I went off to find sears coupons at dropdowndeals so I could get a good deal on a replacement phone. She doesn’t have insurance on her phone and she could use a new phone anyway so why not.
Turns out that all she needed was a charger not a phone. Too bad that I couldn’t find any deals online. That particular model is only sold online, you can’t even go in the store and get it. But while I was lurking around, I found a cute pair of flat shoes for myself. Once I added the coupon to the order those shoes were pretty cheap and I couldn’t justify not getting them.
Sometimes you just have to splurge on yourself.
Mainly because of the situation that my family is putting me in. Well what they’re attempting to put me in. Since my mom passed away I have had the same family members come to me to ask for money on several occasions. I don’t know how much money they think I got but it certainly was not that much.
That leads to my own insurance needs because I saw just how expensive it was for my mom’s funeral. I’ve had several life insurance quotes but I want a few more to make sure the rates are competitive. I don’t want low premiums but have a payout value of next to nothing.
I’ll just have to make sure to read all of the fine print. And avoid my annoying family.
My niece, well great-niece actually, is turning 1 in two weeks and I really wanted to go to her party. They live in another state and I haven’t seen them since my mom passed away. Unfortunately the baby’s birthday is on a Tuesday and her party is on that day. I either have to take several days off and travel down or fly down and fly back on the same day which still entails me taking 1 vacation day.
I really want to go but I don’t think I’m going to be able to swing it this year.
Which is ironic for me but very true. Just last week there were several days where I had no mail and my mom had a ton of stuff. She gets all kinds of mail. I know she’s had several credit card offers as well as offers to open bank accounts. There is also a lot of Medicare plan information that she gets. I usually open everything to see what they’re offering and then passing it on to whomever I think would get the most benefit out of it.
I guess the mail will eventually slow down once they notice that they aren’t getting any response.
My mom passed away last year without a estate. She had a small amount of social security and a small pension that both ended when she passed away. Therefore there was no money to pay any bills that she left behind.
Most of the people just wrote the debts off but a few are still trying to collect. There is nothing for them to get however since she left no estate. If she had bought life insurance online there may have been more money to pay her creditors. I have a very little bit of outside insurance right now. Most of the insurance I do have is through my job. In the event that I do pass away, at least there will be money to settle my debts.
Dealing with some of these people is just a pain.
Whenever I would go home to visit, I would stay at my moms’ house. Since her passing, I no longer have that option. I do have family that I can stay with but I don’t really feel comfortable with that option. I love my family but I’m not certain I want to stay in their home.
I did find a reasonably priced hotel in the area. Of course, I’ll have to whip out the dezl truck gps to find my way there and back but that’s the price you pay for privacy.
I wish I could afford to buy property in or near the town everyone lives in. I’m just not that well off though.
