I’m gonna miss Santonio

I withdrew too much money yesterday by accident. I wasn’t paying attention and instead of the $100 button, I hit $300. I didn’t want that much extra cash laying around the house so I went down to the branch to deposit the excess money.

Once I got down there, I saw a line of people outside the bank just milling around. Then I noticed two city cops standing there. I still didn’t know what was going on until I walked inside. All over the branch was signs saying that Santonio Holmes was going to be signing autographs from 11:30am-1pm.

If I had known I would have brought my shirt from home for him to sign. We usually see all kinds of stuff on the company internet site but there was no mention of this. I guess they didn’t want the branch to get mobbed. Oh well, maybe next time.

Insane Random Ramblings

I have a few ramblings about sports today:

  • The Steelers looked crazy last night. The offense would score and the defense was doing ok until the 4th quarter. Then they gave up 2 touchdowns in less than 3 minutes. They need to shore up that D. When is Troy coming back?
  • I’ve been watching a lot of college football lately. I don’t know if it’s because there is nothing else on tv or what but I’ve been really into it. I’m not rooting for any particular team though.
  • The baseball playoffs still aren’t set because the Tigers and Twins have to play a deciding game tomorrow. The Vikings are playing tonight so the baseball game had to be pushed back.
  • I’m rooting for the Twins because of Detroit’s goofy fans. On Friday night there was a Detroit fan with a “Bring On The Yankees” sign. Uhhh, your team isn’t even in the playoffs yet and you’re confident that you can beat the next team. Talk about counting your chickens before they’re hatched.
  • I registered for World Series tix. I probably won’t get them and even if I do, I probably won’t be able to go. But I’ll try and see what happens. Who knows, maybe I’ll get lucky.
  • A-Rod was about to break his 12 year streak of 30 HR’s and 100 rbi’s. He had 28 and 93. So what did he do? Only go out and hit 2 homers and drive in 7 on the last game of the season. Let’s just hope he produces like that during the post-season.

This is my favorite time of the year. I’m loving all of the sports that I’m seeing lately. I’ll actually be sad when baseball is done because I know that means Winter is just about here.

I don’t like the games played on the West Coast

They start so late. Football is not that bad because the latest they will start is 8pm so the games are almost always over by 1130. Sometimes they will last until after midnight but I don’t mind. If I’m watching the game that late,  it’s usually a good one.

Now baseball is another story. Their late games start at 10:10pm which means they don’t go off until after 1am. I almost always fall asleep watching those games. I don’t mind weekend games though. They’re always entertaining.

I love this time of year even if I don’t like the times the games are played.

Congrats to Michael Vick!

Yeah Roger Goddell finally got it right. Mike is able to play beginning in Week 3 vs the Chiefs. Now Andy Reid has to decide whether to give him an exempt status for the first 2 weeks or put him on the 53 man roster. If he’s exempt he would be unable to practice with the team. I think he needs to be on the regular roster so he can at least practice for those 2 weeks.

I was never a Mike Vick fan but I’m happy for him and it will be exciting to see him play.

The City of Pittsburgh is crazy today

Today is the parade for our Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers. The parade doesn’t start until noon but people started migrating towards downtown at 9am. That doesn’t count the people who started lining up at 5 and 6am for prime spots near the grandstand. Did I mention that it’s cold (of course) and it’s snowing?!?! That’s Steelers fans though. It could be a blizzard and there would be people out there.

The city is estimating that there will be 250,000 people there today. The same amount as last time and almost 45% of the population of the city. Craziness man. The suckiest part? I have to take my exam today so I have to leave work at noon. I’ll be in the thick of the crowd (but going in the opposite direction), and I’ll miss the whole thing.

At least I’ll be able to catch the rebroadcast tonight on television.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are Super Bowl XLIII Champions

Nuff’ Said!!!!!!!!

Stores are closing early here on Sunday

It’s crazy here in Pittsburgh right now. The Steelers are dominating the news. They’re the lead story on every station. Never mind that we have a storm watch because of the ice and snow. They talk about the Steelers, then the weather, back to the Steelers and then the rest of the news until it’s time for the sports segment. Which they then talk about the Steelers.

Everybody is getting into the SuperBowl spirit. There are several pep rallies set for Thursday and Friday around town. Most businesses are relaxing the dress code for the entire week, letting employees can wear black and gold. Even some of the local retail franchises (Eat N Park and several others) are closing early on Sunday so that their employees can stay home and watch the game.

It’s gonna be crazy here on Sunday once the game is over.

The SuperBowl hype is unbelievable

For the past 2 weeks all we’ve heard about it the SuperBowl. Everything is a storyline. Hines Ward has a sprained knee, will he play (of course he will!). Big Ben had a concussion 3 weeks ago is he ok. How will he perform this year compared to the last big game? Now that’s a fair question considering Ben has said that he was nervous the whole game.

I’m almost glad the game is coming up soon. I don’t know how much more of this intense coverage I can take. I know when the Steelers get all of that hardware, they better consider a truck rental to haul it all back to Pittsburgh. I mean that Lombardi Trophy has to be pretty heavy right?

All I know is on Sunday, the Steelers franchise gets ring number 6. How sweet will that be?!

Here We Go Steelers!!!!!!!!

We’re SuperBowl bound again! We beat those pesky Ravens in a hard fought game 23-14. The game was really close until the 4th quarter when we got a interception that sealed the game. It got really scary in the 4th quarter when Ryan Clarke and Willis McGahee collided on the field. Ryan got up and walked off of the field but you could tell he was still shaken up. Willis had to be carted off of the field. News reports have stated that he has feeling and movement in his limbs but has “exceptional” neck pain. I hope it’s only whiplash and nothing serious.

Now we go to Tampa and take on the Arizona Cardinals. Yeah Arizona, I could hardly believe it either. A lot of people are really under-estimating them but I think they forget that Kurt Warner is a Super Bowl winning quarterback. So they’re no slouch team.

I would love to go to Tampa. Unfortunately it’s not feasible right now because of school. I’ll be glad when I’m finally done and I have some disposable income again.

Man that was a good game

If you’re a Steelers fan that is. After a rough start, they were basically good to go for the rest of the game. Now it’s time to bring on the Ravens. We already beat them twice this season but we’re bitter rivals so you can throw that out the window. This will be one vicious, nasty, hard-hitting game.

On the other side, the Eagles went into Giants stadium and came away with the game. Now they get to travel to warm Arizona. Can you believe the Cardinals are in the NFC title game?!?! Craziness.

These are gonna be two really good games.
