What’s with all of the Zune comments?

I get a lot of spam comments on all of my blogs. One thing I’ve noticed lately is that I’ve been getting a lot of comments comparing the Zune to other media players (even ipods). I know spammers just randomly place comments but there are tons of them. I have almost 5 of them every day.

There are some comments that seems to come all of the time. I just don’t get what the big deal is with the zune comments. It just seems to be a very active spammer.

I need another pair of headphones

Seriously, I go through about 4 pairs of headphones every year. I don’t know what I do to them but I keep short them out. The worse part is that it’s usually only in 1 ear. I can hear fine out of the right side, but the left side is totally silent. Of course, they didn’t short out on my way home, it had to happen on my way to work this morning. That means no music on the way to and from work. I also won’t be able to listen to anything all day while I’m at work.

I guess that’s just another thing to add to the shopping list for this weekend. While I’m buying slimming body wraps and other personal effects, I may as well grab a few pair of headphones. I’ve already gone through 2 pairs this year so hopefully another 3 pairs will last me for a while.

At least I hope so because this is starting to get expensive.

I’m going crazy with no good music

We only have 1 real radio station in town and it’s just ok. They play Pop and Top 40 but it’s the same songs in rotation every hour which really stinks. They will ocassionally sneak in a Hip-Hop or R&B song on you but that’s about it. We do have 1 other station but their selection is even worse. Nothing but Top 40 with a hour long rotation.

At work we can’t stream music anymore so you’re pretty much at the mercy of the radio. I really need to add some music to my mp3 player because radio stinks.

It feels good to hear regular music on the radio

I turned on the radio this morning and I was so happy to hear regular music again. Two of our local stations went to an all Christmas format and it was getting to be a bit much. One station started the beginning of November and the other station started the day after Thanksgiving. One is a oldies station and the other is a 80’s 90’s and today’s music station.

Considering the fact that there is no R&B station locally and it can be a real drag. There are only 3 good stations and 3 mediocre ones. Then subtract 2 of the mediocre ones and it’s slim pickings in these parts. The most exciting thing on the radio some days was a advertisement for Toto toilets. You know it’s bad when the best thing on the radio is the commercials.

Now if we could only get a R&B station, everything would be perfect.

WAMO 106.7 Officially off the air

Back in May Sheridan Broadcasting sold their urban radio station to a Christian broadcasting station. Sheridan cited a changing market as reason for the sale. According to Sheridan, there is a new people meter that measures ratings. In markets where the new system has taken place, Black and Hispanic ratings have gone down 40%. Some say the reason is because the meters aren’t evenly distributed to minorities skewing results. Read the article: here

According to Wikipedia:                                                                                                               “As of 6:07PM EST, Tuesday, September 8, 2009, WAMO-FM 106.7 discontinued broadcasting. Its last song was Boyz II Men’s ‘It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye To Yesterday’, and then silence.”

Just sad!

106.7 Wamo and Black radio dead in Pittsburgh

I just read a article on UrbanRadio.com. I can’t believe that Sheridan Broadcasting sold the station. Apparently there was a big to-do last Friday on Facebook. Since I’m not on Facebook yet, I missed it. I’m always saying that Pittsburgh lacks diversity and now there won’t even be a urban station in the area.

It’s things like this that makes my decision to move a whole lot easier.

The radio helps get me through the day

I stayed up late last night watching tv as usual. I think I got less than 3 hours of sleep but I also took a 1 hour nap when I first got home from work. I doubt if I’m actually getting 4 hours of sleep per day. The only thing that helps me get through the day is the radio.

We’re only able to stream 1 radio station with our internet connection at work. Luckily it’s a station that I like anyway. They play all kinds of music from pop to dance to hip hop and r&b. You can hear anything on that station. My favorite thing about the station is that they play skits from the morning show all day long. So even though I miss them in the morning, I can still hear them throughout the day.

If it wasn’t for streaming music, I would literally go crazy.

30 Secrets of the World’s Healthiest Cuisines

I was listening to the John Tesh radio show (stop laughing I like that show) and he reviewed a book called 30 Secrets of the World’s Healthiest Cuisines. The very first thing he talked about was Scandanavian countries, Sweden in particular. They don’t snack at all. They eat their 3 square meals per day but they don’t eat a lot of junk food like we do in the U.S.

In some Asian cultures, meat is used as a flavor enhancer. They eat a lot of vegetables and rice but hardly any meat at all. And the secrets of Mediterranean foods is using olive oil is better than other oils, but eating olives is even better for you.

It was a lot of information and very interesting. And yes, I will admit that I listen to the John Tesh radio show.

I miss hearing disco

Usually Saturday night is disco night on the radio. I started listening to it when I worked nights at my last job. I’ve been listening to the show for at least 5-6 years. During the holiday season, the station switches to an all Christmas music format. So I’m out of luck for at least 2 more weeks.

Who knew that I would actually miss hearing cheesy disco music?!?!

Radio wars

The local radio stations are unbelievably competitive. It’s funny though, when 96.1 Kiss came to the area the prevailing radio station with their format 93.7 B94 ridiculed them for not having local dj’s. As a matter of fact, they didn’t use dj’s at all.

Then B94 changed their format for the past 3 years. They returned to their previous format in September and guess what? No dj’s, they use a track and recordings.

Lame B94. If you’re gonna dish it out, now it’s your turn to take it.
