I miss the cache feature on Google

Almost every good website is blocked at my job. Sometimes it’s games or sweepstakes but sometimes it’s just a news story that I’m looking for.

The majority of the time it’s a weekly feature that I’m looking for. On Slate it would be Dear Prudence (Monday and Thursday), Friend or Foe (every other Tuesday) or on WDAS’s website Patty’s 411 (every Friday).

I used to use the Google cache feature which would bring up a specific page and I could read that even though the site was blocked out. Unfortunately, that’s no longer an option since it seems that Google fazed it out.  It’s not a big deal since I can read everything once I get home. But I used to love reading stuff at the end of the day when I was cleaning up to go home.

Oh well,  just another technological advance.

Am I the only person on the planet still not on Facebook?

I was talking to my friend last night and she was telling about one of her “Facebook friends”. It’s someone she doesn’t know in real life but that she met on the website. I asked her if she had gotten a computer and she said no. She has one of those Palm phones and she used that to start her account. Then she told me about all of my old coworkers who were on FB. Some of them I don’t miss talking to at all but I wouldn’t mind catching up with some of the others.

I’m not saying that I’m the most tech-savvy person that I know but wow, I can’t believe everyone seems to have a page but me. I think I may have to breakdown and create a page or something. It just stinks that my computer is acting up right now. It will be hard to keep something updated that I can’t get to because the computer is slow. I don’t know if it’s the system memory or what that’s causing my computer to run like this but it’s super slow right now. Sometimes I can only be online for a few minutes and only 3 pages will load.

Hopefully I’ll get a new computer soon because I need to get with the times.

I can’t spell simple words

Thank goodness for sites like dictionary.com. I don’t know what I would do without them. There is a glitch in the coding on this blog so my spell-check doesn’t work. There are everyday words that I have trouble with that I need to look up. Lately it’s been “opposed” and “graciously”. I had trouble with one and not the other. Now I have no trouble looking up any website that I need to. I’ve found www.goodsamvip.com, any blog that you can possibly think of and even multiple gossip sites. But ask me to spell something and it’s almost like kryptonite.

I’m glad my coworker told me about the site. I just cracks me up that I’m a college grad and still have trouble with simple words.

All of the good websites are blocked

I’m usually so bored at work that all I do is surf the internet for the part of the day. I have work to do but in-between the work I look around. Of course, all of the good sites are blocked.

All sites like MySpace and FaceBook are automatically blocked. You can’t even access some blogs. Especially if they’re Blogger or TypePad. It gets annoying what I can and can’t look at. I can surf for auto insurance but I can’t read financial news. It’s not like I can complain though. I should be working and not surfing. But when there’s nothing to do I can’t find any good sites to read.

I just wish my job wasn’t so boring that I had time to surf. Then again I shouldn’t complain. I could be so busy that I didn’t get my work done everyday. Which wouldn’t be a good thing either. Heck I’m just happy that I have a job!

Stumble this - Stumble that

I think StumbleUpon is a great idea. You stumble a site or an article to get it noticed. It’s a great traffic generator and you learn about some neat sites along the way. The problem is that some people are stumbling every single article they write.

Some examples of not stumble worthy articles are 1.My cat yakked on the carpet last night, 2. I have the greatest cat/dog in the world, 3. I used New York movers to move 3 blocks. 4. We had pizza for dinner last night, 5. Hey, I cooked a pot roast.

Of course, all of the titles above are made-up but you get the idea. You’re supposed to get your best articles stumbled so people see your best work and want to come back. Would you really want to visit a site again after reading about cat yak if that’s supposed to be their best article? My guess is not unless you just happen to love reading about cat yak.

Pretty soon every sploggy site on the internet will have all of their articles stumbled and that will be a shame because then nobody will trust the site anymore. Then everybody loses with what started as a great idea.

Management equals meetings

The managers at my job are in meetings all day long. Some days they will have 6 hours or more of meetings. I could probably count on 1 hand the number of times my manager had no meetings scheduled for a particular day.

I would make a horrible manager because I always fall asleep in our meetings. And I usually sit right in the front.

Check out the hotties!

I found this sports-related site written by all women. I swear it seems like there are 20 of them but there are around 6 or 7. The site is informative and well-run.

Anything that pertains to the Steelers or Phillies gets my immediate attention. This article really caught my attention. Hubba Hubba look at those Phils.  Any man in a suit is hot, but a group of guys in suits. Wooo lordy!

Check out the Hump Day Hottie post. There are some mighty fine men on that page! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did and still am!
